Compared to the latter, specifically the facelifted version of the F30, the all-new model seems better proportioned. Its front end no longer looks awkward from certain angles (nitpicking), while
And so it is with the latest addition to BMW’s 3-series range – the 318d. Although its name suggests it has a smaller diesel engine than the 320d, in fact it’s the same 2.0-litre turbodiesel unit, detuned to offer better fuel economy, lower emissions and therefore cheaper company car tax bills.
The 318d models went on to make 150hp, while the 320d models got 190hp. BMW still uses the upgraded engines in many of its cars today, which is a testament to how smooth and efficient they are. The same is true of both the 318i and 318d in that they’re designed to maximise efficiency, so they’re not particularly quick.
The 0-62mph dash takes just 4.4 seconds, and it’s limited to 155mph. The 320d uses a four-cylinder, 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 187bhp. Like the 320i petrol, it comes with an eight-speed
The reason I am asking this is my 320d [177bhp] has snapped its timing chains at 125,000 miles [after suspected high pressure fuel pump failure] I have a low mileage [18,000 mile] 318d [143bhp] engine, and I was hoping to use this as a replacement. Depending on the differences, I was hoping to fit the 318d engine to the turbo, injection systemjust wondering does anyone know if there is a major difference between the E90 model 318d and 320d apart from just engine tune/management? I've heard conflicting stories Looking at remapping sites like Autoremap it seems like a pre-2007 update 318d can be remapped up to 155 BHP while a 320d can go up to 190 BHP.
